The future with digitally connected society will definitely create an invigorating,
exhilarating humanity that will find new way of doing things and new things to
do what we have not done before. This technology driven future with all the
applications of technology inventions all around us, education, healthcare,
manufacturing, communication, government, will be disruptive to the way we have
created our brick and mortar organizations. It will give a new look to the
meaning and purpose of our work. We no longer will be judged by when do we come
to office, what do we do in our daily routines, what hierarchy we fall into,
what titles we do hold. Rather people will be measured by the outcomes and
technology will enable this measurement.
As we will be more and more outcome focused, people will demand their
flexibility in making their decisions on when and where to work. They will
decide whom to collaborate in the industry to get the best results excelling
expected outcomes. They will have their own network to get the job done instead
of depending on command and control hierarchy. They will decide which technology
is the best one for them, what makes their working easier, faster, better and smarter.
They will bring their own devices and organizations need to find a way to
integrate them without impacting security, authority and privacy. Maybe organizations
themselves become virtual i.e. a digital platform rather a brick and mortar one
with a street address.
There will be mayhem in losing conventional jobs and traditional
supervisory roles, but there will be a torrent of opportunities in form of new
skills, roles and jobs. The organizations which will embrace the changes in terms
of structure, process and culture earlier will have sinew to be the winners of
future global market place and rest may be put to rest.
