Setting the KRA for the team is the most important task of every
quarter. The outcome of the quarter completely depends on the KRA setting process and
acceptance by the team. KRA setting is not just to monitor and measure
performance, rather it is to give direction, paint a picture, give a
roadmap to the team so that there is no ambiguity in marching forward.
Beauty lies in clarity and detailing. More the KRAs are thought
through, explained and accepted by the team, more is the probability of winning the
desired outcomes.
Hence the KRAs should be specific, measurable, achievable, realistic,
time-bound, energetic and relevant. Read somewhere this as an acronym –SMARTER.
KRA setting is not a function of HR; it is the function of the
business leader. The manner, method and motivation behind KRA setting process
will determine how agile, driving and focused workforce that the organization
has to achieve its desired results.
