There is saying that culture eats the strategy
for breakfast. It is true. Company culture is not a fluffy word for décor at HR
desk. It is the most crucial artifact for business to draw its own present and
future definition.
Company culture can best be defined as a combined
belief and expression of the associates within the company. It is the
embodiment of the way they all behave within the company and with outside
stakeholders, consistently, irrespective of good time or bad time.
The way the associates are empowered, motivated
and challenged to drive business, the way they collaborate with each other to
meet what business demands, the way they remain focused on customer, the way
they cherish learnings and rejoice success, the way they nourish the newcomers
respectfully as part of a family, the way they treat and serve outside stake-holders
as part of eco-system, that in essence is the company culture.
As a leader one should keep an eye on the company
culture. It impacts talent in a way that; forget talent acquisition, one may
not be able to retain. It impacts product and services in a way that; forget
innovation, mere maintaining existing products and services may be difficult.
It impacts customers in a way that; forget new customer wins, retaining
existing customers will be a nightmare. It impacts business numbers in a way
that; forget growth, one will be irrelevant and non-existstent.
Culture is the single most important
aspect of a company that determines its existence, dominance in the market and long-term
success and is the platform upon which business strategy is executed with style
to create an experience.
