In our knowledge industry, we expect everyone to be a ‘Leader’. The
titles like ‘Manager’, ‘Supervisor’ and ‘Overseer’ are passé. This is for a
simple reason that we are measured by the experience that our artifacts & outcomes
produce and not by the work-steps, style of execution and number of hours
spent.
In that context, the art of delegation becomes the most important
leadership skill – a soft skill that is a must for an effective leader.
As a leader, you do not have privilege to more time and you got to
think more, think new, think big picture, implement the thoughts to steer the
team creating wealth within the same 24 hour clock as any other person has.
More you know how to delegate, how much to delegate, whom to delegate, what risk to take and up to what extent tolerate failure that determines how much free time you may have for yourself to perform better and excel better.
Delegation does not mean macro management, rather a nouveau approach
to micromanagement based on metrics, based on trust, based on accountability
and based on experiential mentoring.
A smart leader effectively delegates smartly.
