I took a pause to think over a sample day from 9 to 6 and how to phrase my answer.
I said “ I do quite a lot of work. There are customer calls to attend to. I do have to review a couple of projects. There are issues around people like attrition, concerns, and grievances. I do have to attend quite a few team meetings and also there is my Boss to attend to.”
My friend looked at me quizzically and replied “you seem to be very busy”. Which is true. I do hardly have time to do anything else during those 9 hours. Needless to say that I have to have a working lunch most of the time. That is, munching some junk food while attending to my emails. Sometimes, canteen visit is like a hurricane-grab something, eat fast and return to the seat.
But the next question from my friend really grappled me. He asked, “Do you act on the tasks which are linked to your KRA?” The obvious answer was that I do not. Good thing that I learned was that if I can have a daily task-monitor at the end of the day and find ways to focus on essential tasks linked to my KRA, my productivity would increase and I do not have to be a busy- bee throughout those nine hours.
