Hurray! It is Election time

Today, the first phase of the 15th election process in India begins. Approximately 710million citizens of the largest democracy of the world will exercise their right to elect the next Government...not necessarily the best.

The democratic process is stretched too far in allowing so many parties including the regional ones to come into fray. One is puzzled to find the best one for the nation. No national party can claim to win a clear majority. Does it matter?

We are somehow tuned to the coalition Government, the first one NDA and then UPA. Even we had the Prime Minister nominated and not elected.

Also this time, it is not clear whether any party is concerned with any burning issue worth of national debate. Don't tell me that we do not have any national issues amidst economic recession, upsurging terrorist mayhem, low infrastructure development, non-homogeneous education spread, glaring poverty, so on and so forth. The electoral manifesto of any party is seriously silent on any national idea or vision.

Anyway, we cheer democracy which runs the Government in an autopilot mode......
