Read the article by R Gopalakrishnan on Hindustan Lever's (Unilever) 75th year of operation in India. Hindustan Lever is no more a business house, rather it is an institution. One can easily read it through in the article. And the basic foundation for that....PURPOSE and CULTURE (Sanskar). Evolution of any entity into an institution is based on a consistent purpose statement that is simple to understand, internalise and be truthful. The arduous journey of several flagbearers in good times as well as bad times maintaining integrity, ethics, compassion, trust and inclusive social contribution creates a signature of the institutiion's culture.
